The first gen Honda Civic wasn't great since it was made during the oil crisis of 1972 to 1979, not a bad car, just a very unenthuiastic and boring one. It passed California's strict emissions laws without a catalytic converter using the Civic's CVCC technology. It also has independent rear suspension which was a good but expensive move by Honda.
